windows 98 to 2000 upgrade
i have windows 98 on my computer right now. but a friend of mine gave me a windows 2000 cd for free and i'm going to upgrade to it but can i do that without deleting my hard drive? i don't want to loose all my files.

I do believe that if U run the setup.exe from windows it will detect an OS (the win98) already on there and give U the option to upgrade existing OS...

Boot to win98, pop in Win2k CD. Click upgrade. Done
But I can't stress this enough. Don't take win2k's word for it, you should backup your stuff no matter what!

but will upgrading delete my hard drive?? i keep backups of my files, but i still don't want to loose them. i don't want to download and install all my software again.

If you upgrade. Your files and applications will stay intact. Of course if your apps are compatable with the new OS. I'm glad to hear you do backups. Simply run the upgrade for Win2k and you will be set!
