Is anyone using this?

www.copydvdcd.com

Looks pretty neat, and if I don't have to fork out the cash for a DVD-R, so much the better. I'd like to convert my VHS over to DVD...

anyone using this?

That's almost all snake oil.

First of all, the VHS-Convert and PicturePlayer make no sense at all. You need a DVD burner to burn a DVD. So if this software package is aimed at people without DVD burners, what good is it? You can't records a VHS movie onto a DVD without a DVD burner, period.

Second, the DVD copier doesn't really copy. It records VCDs, which you can barely see in their little screenshot movie. I am not exactly sure how VCDs work, but given that dual-layer DVDs store 9.8 GB of info, and a CD stores 700 MB, either a DVD turned into a VCD is going to be extremely poor quality, or it is going to be spread across several VCDs. Not exactly worth it. Notice how they say that it doesn't produce DVDs, merely that what comes out can be played in your DVD player.

I'd stay away from this software. If you want to record to DVD, you need to buy a DVD burner.

DVD

There is DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RAM. It's pretty confusing.

I think that the DVD+R/DVD+RW format is superior to DVD-R/DVD-RW. There are drives that can burn both, however, so if you have any doubts, you can always get those.

DVD-RAM can't be played on regular DVD players, as far as I know. It uses a DVD disc to store data, but other than that it shares little with other DVDs.
