Browser Delima

I have been using Opera for a couple months. I love all the extra features such as mouse gestures and the fact that all pages open in one window. Since starting to use Opera I have noticed some things that are getting very annoying. I have noticed a huge difference in the amount of time it takes for Opera and IE 6 to open identical pages. Opera is much slower. On sites such as Newegg.com Opera freezes every time I click on a new product catagory. Opera also "Encounters errors much more often than IE 6. I really don't want to give up all the features that Opera gives me but IE 6 is faster, more stable and is compatable with any and all websites. Any suggestions?

I do not use Opera but I have heard numerous times that not all pages are rendered correctly by Opera. This is due to carelessness on the web developer's part and it's a shame that not all browsers adhere to W3C standards. The simplest solution is to keep IE as backup and use it for sites that don't render properly in Opera. I know glc uses Opera so perhaps he can shed some light on subject.

You couls always use mozilla or mozilla firebird. They have both can open pages in one window and I think there is an add-on for mouse gestures.

There should be add-ons for IE.

IE isn't open source like Mozilla/Firebird, so it's harder to made add-ons for it.

I've been using Mozilla Firebird for a few weeks now and haven't had any major problems with it. Occasionally you might have a menu bar that doesn't disappear automatically after you chose an option in it, or something small of that nature, but no big crashes or anything, and I haven't found any pages yet that it doesn't load right either. It can use tabs to open new pages instead of opening a new window like IE does and I have to admit, even on my sluggish dialup connection I can see the pages loading faster with Firebird than they do in IE.

Well I switched back to MSN Explorer AKA IE with a different interface. I do miss the mouse gestures and such but I do not miss the errors, lock-ups, and slow loading pages.

If you like Opera, don't give up.

Try posting your question in the Opera forum - http://my.opera.com/forums/ - to see if anybody there can help.

Open the Hotlist, right click anywhere, File, Export as HTML. Open Mozilla, Bookmarks, Manage Bookmarks, Import.
