Question Pinnacle Studio 8 - Trying to Understand

When I capture a DV film to my HDD, it then shows up in the Album of the prog. I can then pull clips from that original film to put into my project.

Question 1 - Even though I've pulled clips into my project, must the original video stay in the same spot until I output the project? Or once I pull the clips into the saved project, do I no longer need the original film? My guess is the first, but I can't seem to verify that anywhere in the docs or at their site...

Question B - Once I output a project to an MPEG file for example, can I reopen that file as a project and manipulate its clips, transitions, etc? Or is that a one-way street that isn't reversible?

TIA

In the editors we use (Adobe Premiere, Avid XpressDV and Avid|HD) your clips need to stay in the original bin or project folder.

It's a one way street.

That stinks. I have a game film downloaded onto one of my HDDs because I needed to return the original tape on short notice. I didn't have the time to just download clips. I only am using about 3 mins worth of highlights from that game, but I'll be compiling highlights from other games over the next several weeks of the soccer season. Until I complete the project, then that whole film has to stay where it is so that I can use those few highlights?

Easy. You've captured the entire video. Now just edit out the clips you want, saving them individually (ie...clip1.avi, clip2.avi, clip3.avi and so on). Then when you go to work on your project, you've got all those seperate clips you can load into your project folder. And you've still got the one, large clip if you need to pull more from it.

HTH.
