Black Screen watching dvds

Why is it that when I try to watch a video or Dvd movie I can only hear it but not see it? The screen is black. And this goes for all avi, mpg, ect.... I have XP

What is your video card? Are you using dual monitors?

What kind of software you're using watch the video? Maybe it's a software issue.

My video card is PNY NVIDIA GeFORCE TI 4200. No duel monitors any softway that I tried was the same black scrren with just audio. I tried using winamp,windows media player, realplayer, Direct DVD. They all have the same black sceen. I dont know whas going on .

what kind of video are you trying to play? Bootlegged video d/led from Kazaa, etc. sometimes needs to be decoded (I think that's what they call it).
