I've used the below Start Page Guard for the longest. It works and free:

I discovered something that really help on Spybot... Once you open it. On left side, on the bottom click on Tools. Then when the option come up, click on Browser Pages. The page that comes up lists all websites that are registered as search or start pages on IE. If your browser leads you to a page you havent set up yourself, and that you cant change in its settings you will most probably find it listed there, and will be able to change it by using the change button. You can change those bull**** websites that get on your computer and you dont know how they got there.
If you didnt understand any of that jibberish above... sorry... im **** at explaining stuff. |

Try deleting the cookies, temp files and the cache. Reset the web settings making sure that the box for IE to check to be the default browser has a check in it. Then manually set the start page in internet options. Finally do a serach of the hard drive for the hosts files. You will find at least 2 files called hosts or lmhosts. They may have an extension of SAM and be called hosts.sam or lmhosts.sam. Delete them all and then reboot the computer.

Internet Options/ Programs tab - click the "reset web settings" button to restore default home and search pages.

Actually, you can delete all of the hosts files as Windows will recreate blank ones when it reboots. The spybot one will also be recreated when you rerun the program.

You need to get rid of the hijacker program that's hidden somewhere on your hard drive too. The easiest way to find it is to use HijackThis. Read the instructions on the download page.
