Unlocking a cell phone normally means that a person is planning on using the phone to make free phone calls or access other phone services that they are not paying subscribers to. This is an illegal practice and as such is not allowed on this forum. Please read the rules!
On the other hand if you are having cell phone problems please make a visit to you cell phone provider's store. |

Generally a cell phone unlock is not illegal at all, you cannot make free phone calls with an unlocked phone - you cannot change the IME# with an unlocked cell fone. In fact, most service providers will give you that information, especially if you are switching over to their service with a fone from an older service - I know I've got information on getting it done from legitimate dealerships.
What I feel is really unscrupulous is having a cell phone that you pay money for, and then find out its restricted - like buying a hard drive and then finding out that it will only work with Windows. I thought that this was an issue only in Canada. In many countries, SIM locking is actually illegal by consumer protection laws (I've read of it being the case in Netherlands); and in others, operators are legally required to unlock the fones after the terms of the contract is over.
