hidden file's

when using win 95 to xp, i do a scan disk and i get the scan disk result's, can anyone enlighten me on what hidden file's are. for example i have a win 98 unit, and i performed the scan disk, the result's said that there is 45,240,320 bytes in hidden files, what are hidden file's and is there any thing to do with them, is there a way to access them and delete them, it apear's to take up alot of drive space. i had a buddy format a hard drive to regain his disk space, becuse he had a lot of hidden file's and he couln't find them to delete them
tks sling

Like stated above, you choose that option and it will display all hidden files.

There are hidden files in the system because they are best left alone. If you "accidently" delete them or modify them it can really mess things up depending on what you did.

So for the most part, no, you can not delete them. It's seems strange to me though that your buddy would have to format a hard drive because there were too many of these files. I've never heard of that before.

This doesn't relate to hidden files, but have you been deleting your temp folder and emptying your temp. internet files? The ScanDisk MIGHT treat them as hidden files, but I'm not sure. There's got to be a reason for what your saying.

tks to you all i deletted my cookies, temp internet file's and the temp folder, and it dropped down to 209 file's and 38,096,896 bites, and i agree that you don't want to delete some of the hidden file's. as you can see that doing this did clear out a little, and the rest is probibly for window's and program's, witch i won't even touch. as far as my buddy, he probibly didn't delete the above that i did and his hidden file's amounted to more that was needed. c-ya sling
