Win98SE on Pentium 4

Hi Boys, I built a new machine, a P4 2.66 on Asis P4SDX 512 MB ram. It is a dual boot using TRIOS II Two 80GB HDDs.
I installed XP on one drive and Win98SE on the other. XP is all setup and running sweet. The 98 system has been bad news. i've formatted and installed three times. The audio is full of bugs and conflicting problems in Device Manager. The system hangs and sometimes won't shutdown. The system sometimes runs very slow. The same sound card works perfectly when I boot the XP system.
Is the whole problem caused by runnjing Win98SE on P4? My old PIII 550 With W98 runs circles around this P4 setup. I value your thoughts, Rr

Bailey, I didn't explain well. "Trios II" is a Multi-Drive Selector made by RomtecUSA.com. Two HardDrives each have one operating system and isolated from the other by a switching device. Neither operating system knows the other exists because it is isolated from the IDE port by the selector. Actually I did install 98 first, but is is irrelovent.. I was wondering about 98SE/P4 compatability because I have tried two different sound cards with no luck. It may not be the sound card or the 98 compatability. The system always runs slow and poorly. The most evident problem is, No Audio. Rr

Win98 has a problem with systems using CPU's faster than 2.1GHz. See this.

Did you install the proper motherboard chipset and device drivers for Win98? That newer system won't have built in support in Win98, you'll have to hunt down drivers and such.

Well Boys, I un-installed all audio devices and disabled all the trouble makers in device manager. Installed the driver only for the sound card. Now I have system sound. I checked my Asus documentation and found the MB does not support Win98. Every Audio player I install including Win. Media player causes my system to hang. It takes the fun out of my "multi Drive Selector". Thank you for your input, Rr

Not sure what the problem is JustOne. Like Bailey said, 98se runs fine on P4. I have 2 hard drives in my machine, each with a separate OS. When I want to change, I just restart and when the Asus splash screen shows, I press Esc for about a full second. Then a boot selection is displayed and I can select the 98 hdd. Otherwise the default start is XP. I've been running this way for about a month with no problems at all. Check my sig for components. I've run all the 98 updates including Media player and IE. Flawless so far.
