best cd writing program?

my vaio came with veritas cd recorder, but everytime i try to open it, it trys to install it, and then finds it is missing a file, asks me to put in the cd, cant find the file, and ends up opening just fine anyway. this is VERY annoying to go through each time i want to burn a cd.
so what free software will do a good job?
i have a dvd-r too, so if the program can write dvd's too, thats sweet!

I have nero that came with my LiteOn CDR drive and it works like a charm. I am happy with it. But, I am not sure if you can get it for free.

I don't know about free cd burning software, besides the one thats built into XP. Nero is amazing and I dropped EZCD Creator for it. Nero is just a great application!

Hope this helps.

I used Adaptec/Roxio Gateway supplied Ezy CD Creator for a while, then bought Ezy CD 4, then got Nero 5.5 with my new burner in this machine, and installed Record Now in a machine for my son. I'd rank them Nero 1, Record Now 2, and Ezy a distant 3rd.

I also use a recording software with burn capability. Max speed is only 32X on my 52 rated burner, but the software is awesome for converting old LP's, cassettes, or whatever. It's called Audio Cleaning Lab 2004. Highly recommended.
