wireless wheel mouse

I have a wireless wheel mouse and keyboard. As of a few days ago it wasn't working properly. I did all the usual things, changed batteries and cleaned the base.
That didn't help so I re downloaded the software through Microsoft downloads. I downloaded the Intellipoint Mouse 4.1. It still didn't help.
Any ideas?

wireless mouse

The mouse is Microsoft Wireless Wheel Mouse on Windows XP.
The only changes I made prior to the mouse not working well was adding an updated Intel Modem driver from Microsoft download page. I am not the most experienced person when dealing with all this. There were a couple of other downloads I did that dealt with notification of errors directly from Microsoft. Those are the only changes I made.

wirless mouse

What I mean by not working properly is that it is not smooth on my desktop. I have to struggle with the mouse in order for the pointing device to point where I want it to point. I have a feeling it's the software because this happened about 1 year ago and I had to re download the software and it was fixed. This time it's not helping to improve the performance.

Try placing a white piece of paper underneath the mouse and see if it goes where you want it.
