password protect a file in Word 97?

Can I password protect a whole file where I put diary documents in. I don't want to have to p-word protect each doc....

well if I needed to pw protect a group of files, I usually zip it with pw.

Now, there's an idea. A bit more complex of a solution than I prefer. But if no one else gives me a clue, I may have to do it. Thanks.
