Video Capture
Hi
I am a complete beginner so I expect I am doing something really stupid, but I have captured some footage from an anolog vcr to my hard disk with invervideo wincoder. When I play it back the sound is out of sync with the video. Can anyone tell me how to correct this please. I tried to capture with moviemaker first but the picture was jumping all over. Any ideas how to correct this? I am using an svideo connector into the pc but when I change the settings to svideo I just get a black and white picture. I dont get anything if I connect to the composite port. The only way I get a colour picture is with the lead connected to svideo but set to composite. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Joyce |

Hi hopkinsj,
It might be beneficial if you give some more details, like capture card make and model, type of computer, CPU type and speed, sound card, operating system, etc... TwoRails |

Well, I'm confused right off the bat. The V7700 is also a "display adapter," but you list a seperate display adaptor... Do you have both in the computer? The 7700 is a AGP card, so that means the GF 2 must be a PCI card.......

You might also want to add the amount of ram in your system.

The V7700 Deluxe was / is a very good vid card and is most likely not the problem. WinCoder also gave me trouble, and since their tech support was very snotty, I refuse to use any of their products.
So, that leaves the very adequate capture software supplied by Asus. I’ve always been pleased with the quality of analog capture it produces. Like all capture software, the settings can be a royal pain in the butt, and often just takes “messing” around with to get the best quality. First, since there are very few, true S-video VCRs around, I would / do capture straight from the yellow analog output (and I don’t own a VCR with an S-video out, anyway). Keep in mind, however, that you still need to hook up sound to your sound card. Also, the vid card has only a S-video in port, meaning to capture composite, you must use the “dongle” supplied with the card (or the like). The composite jack on the card itself is TV out only, and not an input. The most important thing, however, is you must set you location source to the correct country type. You don’t mention where you are from, but you use NTSC M State Side, and PAL for other major areas of the world. The size and quality settings you can play with to your heart’s content. Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction! TwoRails |
