Hey,
I'm having trouble installing the usb 2.0 drivers which came with my motherboard. In the directions it says to install some packet which enables win xp to accept the usb 2.0 drivers. I've installed service pack 1 for win xp and the usb ports in the back work. It's the front two which aren't working. I've doubled checked and the two front usb ports are wired to the motherboard correctly, so it's not a wiring problem. Right now in my device manager win xp has installed a bunch of things under the usb slot. When i uninstall one, win xp instantly says "detects new hardware" and reinstalls it. What should I do? The packet doesn't have an install exe, it vaguely says it should install itself when you install the original drivers. When I double click the usb 2.0 driver install, the hour glass comes up on the mouse cursor, then nothing happens. This post is confusing I know, but Im stuck. Thanks. I forgot to add that the packet, (q something) is located on the same disk as the usb 2.0 drivers are.

Go into the device manage and find the USB entry with the yellow exclaimation point next to it. Right click on it and select update driver. When the box pops up select automatically find the driver and click enter. Windows will now install the driver from SP1. You are finished as there is nothing else to do or install.
For some reason, after you install SP1 it does not automatically update the USB2 driver unless you do this. |

I have installed Service pack 1, but in my device manager there isn't any yellow exclamation point. Under the usb controllers it has 8 entries. Is it saying that it's working? Could my front usb ports just be broken? Thanks

Are the extra ports enabled in the BIOS? Are the front ports correctly wired?

Ok, i got into the bios screen, but the only time it mentions anything about usb is under the hardware tab, and they're set to enabled. What else could be wrong? What's weird is yesterday i pressed the restart button on my case by accident, and when it booted up, it said it couldn't find my usb keyboard. I had to boot up with a regular keyboard, and when it got to windows it automatically detected "new usb hardware" and built drivers for my keyboard, which now works.
The front ports still aren't working. What should I do? |
