Alternative to Adobe Page Maker?

I need to prepare text for my printer who
uses Page Maker, but who doesn't have the fonts I want to use let alone the patience to set the text attractively.
What does pagemaker save the page as ?
She says she' thinks '.tif, but I question that. Do you know if this is so, cause my excellent little $20 OfficePrinter program can save as .bmp and then I could convert that in Irfanview to .tif. I just don't want to pay $500 to prepare text for the back of a postcard. Thanks.

MS Office Publisher may be something to take a look at

Pagemaker and Publisher use proprietary filetypes. Publisher is .pub and Pagemaker is .pmx where x is the version number.

You might try out Adobe InDesign, which can handle files created with older versions of Pagemaker. I havealso found it much easier to use than Pagemaker.

By the way, if you want to lay out a page and just have your printer print it out for you without any alteration, you could export it as an EPS (Encapsulated Postscript) file that she could then simply copy onto her machine and print out.

glc you got it ! They are all proprietory. Its the damn biblical
' tower of babel ' in which none can talk to another. ie., files generated in one cannot be used in another.
There is a crying need for a good but simple text and photo layout program that can export as .tif or similar, that costs about $50. I can't remember what it was with MSPub that used to infuriate me apart from its unexportability.
Got current job done with a PageMaker trial , but no way am I going to pay $500 - $1000 for this, or Corel, Quark etc.
The OfficePrinter I reviewed in pcmech is excellent for $15 , but also is an unexportable proprietory format. They say they are working on an ' export as .bmp' version.

Just a random thought here, would photoshop open the pagemaker file? ie- export to photoshop.

I know illustrator, pagemaker and photoshop work somewhat close together.

What version of pagemaker, btw?

Shareware Version 2 of OfficePrinter, files exportable as .bmp
is just out. Its billed as a ' business card and stationary printer '
but you can use its blank letterhead page to layout any project combining text and graphics. Space between letters and lines is adjustable. About $15 after 30 days.
