Slipstreaming XP SP1

Hope I'm OK to talk about this here, and if it's totally legal, as it does involve copying an XP CD in a sense

I'm having trouble slipstreaming SP1 onto an XP CD. Basically Nero doesn't even start burning

Using instructions from this site:

http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=248

Basically Nero doesn't like the bootfile. It tells me "Invalid handle - boot.bin" and doesn't write anything to the CD

Any ideas? This happened last time I tried to slipstream XPSP1 as well using instructions from a different site

Thanks,

It means you (for example) add a service pack onto a CD so it is installed automatically (updates the setup files on the CD)

So for example, once this is done if I use my new XP CD which has SP1 slipstreamed, SP1 will already be installed even though it is a fresh install

Similar things can be done with other hotfixes etc and also for Office SP1 and SP2 etc etc

Thanks,

Jim

So, are you trying to create a new disk from your original windows xp CD combined with SP1? Sounds interesting.

Yes, I have already done the same with Office XP and SP2. Also when I used Windows 2000, I slipstreamed that with SP2 as well

But the XP slipsteeam is causing me some problems!

Send a message via ICQ to RJ
I've slipstreamed Windows XP with SP1 as well and I also slipstreamed Win2K. Both slipstreamings work the same way.
If I understood you right you already merged WinXP and SP1 and only have problems burning this as a bootable CD, right ? I think you probably have the wrong settings or a broken bootfile.

I'd download another bootfile or extract the bootfile on the original CD.

This site might be helpful, too: http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsX...p1-bootcd.html

Spot on RJ. I've done the neccessary but it just won't burn!

I've tried downloading the boot file from two different locations and also extracting it from my own CD but to no avail

I've now bought a new CD Writer and am using new CDs but that hasn't helped (it was an upgrade because my old one was 12x write, not just upgraded for this!)

I am now upgrading to the latest version of nero, see if that'll help

Thanks for the link above, I'll have a look
