Problem Installing SoundMAX driver - Please help!!!
I uninstalled an older SoundMAX driver for my onboard sound to be replaced with a newer version. After finishing, it prompted me to reboot, and of course I selected "No" and started the installation with the newer drivers, planning on rebooting after that installation. Anyway, into the install about 10% I got an error, and it recommended rebooting and running the installation again. Now I get a strange error, and in the Start Menu, inside the SoundMAX folder, the shortcuts have very strange names w/ ASCII codes, etc. and I cannot delete these. Does anyone have any clues as to how to fix this?

....I'm not THAT stupid, that was one of the first things I tried. Anyway, it doesn't appear on the Add/Remove programs list anymore after I tried it once and of course got an error, it seems like a registry problem. I'm just going to go out and buy a sound card. I need one anyway for my Z-640's.

If you have a Registry Cleaner program around, try deleting the SoundMax folders that have been left behind by the incomplete uninstall - then run your cleaner. Reboot into Safe Mode to make sure the devices are truly gone. If not, remove them there.
Then reinstall with your new drivers . . . Gary |
