Installation error w/ illustrator 10 on XP

I am trying to install Illustrator 10 on my pc w/ xp and I keep getting a error message :

Component: window sysfiles
File Group: MSVCRT
File: \
ERROR: the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

Please help.

is this installation a new full install or a upgrade one.

I have two versions a friend of mine had.
One is an upgrade and the other is a full version. Niether of them can get past this error.

I tried to remove the entire program several different ways but nothing seems to work.

they may be bad copies

They seem to work fine when I loaded them onto another machne here in the office.

I think it is something on my main machine that will not allow a different copy to be reloaded.
Maybe some sort of right protection.

very likely that is the case

you might want to check the regestry for any referance to it and remove them, and try again.
