*.dat file viewer
I've downloaded some instructions off of the internet, but their in .dat format. Is there any program available that I can use to view these files? I presume it needs to be a .dat viewer as apposed to a player (it's not a movie, i think). All the programs I've found come with spyware.

.dat files could be just about anything. If they won't open in Notepad or Wordpad, then you may need to get a hex editor (like NitroHex or WinHex). However, if they are instructions as you say, it is unlikely that they would be so complex that you need a hex viewer.
