Boom DVDs freezing

Whenever I play a DVD in my comp (specs listed below, running in XP), the movie freezes for a few seconds every 10-20 min and especially near the end or in action sequences.

I have a few background programs running, but nothing that seems to slow anything else down any.

I ordered PC3200 RAM, and will be getting it in a week or so. Would I see an improvement with the RAM speed upgrade?

Also, my HDD activity light is on constant most of the time while playing the movie.

Any suggestions?

Is this on any DVD, or just one?

Dave.

What software (PowerDVD, WinDVD...)? And have you tried other software packages other than the one you currently use?

I never had success with PowerDVD v.4. I'm using v.5 now and really like it.

I'd look for another program first - not necessarily as a replacement, but just to see if say WinDVD or even Microsoft's MediaPlayer does the same. But I'm thinking since your hardrive is in constant use, PowerDVD is somehow loading the movie on your hardrive first (say into a cache or into the pagefile) and that's where your glitch is coming from.
