On my desktop listed below I backed up all files ( all 9 gig's or so) and system state to my 20 gig HD that isnt moniterd by system restore
I just needed to know if it will really restore my files and system state back the why they were if XP becomes unfixable Thanks

Windows XP backup program
glc I forgot to ask would it be a good idea to start XP (if possable) in safe mode to restore a backup to an earlier point or will it really matter?

It all depends exactly what you are trying to restore.

I'd try that. Install XP without the second drive in, shut down, hook up the second drive, restart again, make sure the second drive is seen, then restart in safe mode and do a complete restore, overwriting everything. This assumes backup will run in safe mode - I don't know if it will or won't.
