Is this a new problem? or is this normal? If new, you probably have a scam dailer on your system. If it's normal, then it's most likely just a property setting. Do you have any programs loading on bootup? like IE or the like?

Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections -
"Never dial a connection" Drag a shortcut to your dialup connection out of your network and dialup connections to the desktop or quicklaunch bar, and dial up manually when you want to connect. |

I repeat, do you have programs set to "automatically check for updates"? If so then one may (is) trying to do exactly that everytime you boot the PC.

Try going to start, execute and type msconfig. Disable everything in startup tab expect antivirus then reboot and see if that solves your problem.

You might want to also disable the AV (just don't go online) as some will also Automatically check for updates.

This might be part of IE's "synchronization".
In IE, select "Tools" from the menu. Select "Synchronize" and have at it. not much...good luck |

Spybot... It also has an option to disable certain items to load on startup that msconfig sometimes seems to miss. |

You sure you are using "Spybot Search & Destroy"?
Try Ad-Aware and see what it finds. |

Does Spybot offer to run on restart to finish the cleaning? It should.
Exactly WHAT is it calling the spy it found? |

glc--- It is in my reg. Name is" BLAZING TOOLS" Spybot does not offer on restart. However on restart I can do a new scan but when i click on "CLEAN" it takes me to the Spybot web site and they want 29.95. In the install they say I have a 30 day trial.

Here is what I found on a Google search. How can I get rid of this trash ?
Blazing Tools Perfect Keylogger is a stealth keylogger that hides on your system and records all keystrokes you type, including private conversations and even passwords and credit card numbers. |

Sarge----Spybot found it & called it a trojan. It would not "clean" for me. I have Zone alarm but Blazing Tools is not showing up on a computer search so I do not know wether ZA is blocking it or not. I have every thing shut down in ZA except what I need to get on the net.
p s This is my private laptop. NO one has access to it. I did not put that software there. Last edited by seagull; 12-01-2003 at 01:14 PM. |

It won't show up in a search on the PC. It renames itself so you can't. Mine was something like INNexr or somesuch. If it's legit snoopware it will behave as a Trojan, thus it's detected. Try this free for 30 days and examine ZA closely to see what's allowed to access anything. If you have to investigate every entry - a painstaking process but worth it.
