I have an old diagram. I want to make the background white, now its yellow. I just use the bucket tool and the background is white. the problem is that there is text with the diagram. So when using the bucket tool, the inside of a letter (0,9,8,b,p) are still yellow. Is there an easy way to make the yellow all white?
I use to enlarge the image and using the bucket tool. Time consuming.

Do you have Paint Shop Pro? If you do, use the colour replacement tool. It should be located in the colour picker (eyedropper) flyout. Select the replacer tool, and set the colour you want to replace (yellow) as the background colour and set the new colour(white) as the foreground colour. Now simply double click in the immage to replace all instances of the old colour (in your case yellow). It is a much simpler tool than Photoshop's colour replacer.

The problem with color replacement is it works accross the entire image and replaces all of that color. You may be better off trying the color correction tools (RGB Levels) to fix the problem, this will still affect the entire image but in a more natural way, also remember to either work on a copy or a separate layer. You could also try screening the layers to see if thats all that needs to be done.
edit: NM, i see it's a diagram you're working on, not a photo. |

That was done with Paint Shop Pro 8. You can find an evaluation copy at www.jasc.com, which you can use for all of thirty days till it expires.
