norton av 2004

hi all,
norton a/v seems to slow down my system start up...i'm using winxp. any1 has this problem?

What are your computer specs? Norton used to slow my computer down and thats why i swiched to AVG, never looked back. Its a great AntiVirus program.

its the only anti virus wourth paying for. rest is junk. all av's take up juice so that is to be expected

I'm still running 2003 but have no problems with any time lag. Did you time it with auto protection on, then time it with auto protection off??

PS: also, are you using straight NAV, or NAV as part of NSW??

I'm using it on the PCs over at the house and nary a slowdown. I do have check for auto updates disabled.

If you have a machine with marginal power, Norton will take a big hit in startup performance. It does have a pretty big footprint. I would guess that if you are running XP on something any less than 500 MHZ and 256mb ram, the hit will be very noticeable. It's a price to pay for protection, if this is unacceptable to you, AVG has a lot smaller footprint.

Ja, my pc is also slowing down my internet connection when auto start is enable. thats why i disable it when i'm surfing.

I have mine off also, and just check for updates manually, at my convienence.
