The OEM is the same as the Full version except it doesn't come in a pretty box and you are your own support.

hi,

I just went for the XP Pro upgrade, and installed it over a Win ME installation and everything went fine.
I think the only difference between the two, is that the full edition assumes you dont have any windows OS to begin with. WinXP upgrade should come in the normal microsoft box, unless its an OEM edition.
I bought mine from the shop, and was about £70, ages ago. Got box, instructions and the usual stuff.

I have installed XP on that board for someone else, and didnt have problems. Mind you, I first used Fdisk in dos, and formatted to fat32. Then I installed WinSE. After that, I installed the XP upgrade, and changed it to NTFS and it all went ok.

Ive heard people having problems, but luckily havent encountered them myself. The guys mobo is still running sweet, with no probz.

Difference between upgrade and full, is that FULL assumes you dont have Windows already. Upgrade version assumes you have the full os (Win95, 98, ME, SE, or 2000), and will ask you to insert the cd during installation (with the prduct key if you are installing on a blank drive)

As lil jimmie said, it's the same OS without the pretty box. You do need a previous version of Windows for the upgrade disk. Just insert the XP CD and as it installs it will ask you for a previous OS disk.

You can use the OEM (which is what the $91 package at Newegg is) for a fresh install or an upgrade. No reason to mess with the upgrade-only or the full retail.

FWIW
I just installed XP on a A7N8X. Only been 4 days but rock solid so far.
Chas

PS
I've always used boards with VIA chipsets, but I do like this nforce chipset so far. I, so far have had less problems with my ATI and TV viewing while on the net. Maybe Hal is onto something.
