Damn Dirty GATOR...
How do I get rid of Gator, I keep getting these stupid pop up adds, and everytime I restart I loose my homepage, it goes to some place called LuckySearch.
I did an AdAware scan yesterday and it turned up 69 files, most of which were associated with gator. How can I get rid of the gator popups? And get rid of it once and for all? |

You need to go through your add/remove program list for all Gator-enabled programs and uninstall them. This site may help:

HiHo has it right ...Spybot SD has an "Immunize feature that I believe blocks Gator from returning once you eliminate it.

Ok, there is no Gator in my add/remove programs list. There is a link to it in my start menu, however in its control panel it shows that there are no gator enabled apps.
Where can I download SpyBot? |

And for some reason everytime I restart my IE homepage is luckysearch.net, not what I had previously set it to.

Gator-enabled programs include Precision Time and Date Manager. When Date Manager is installed, a calendar with white background and blue frame and number showing today's date show up near the clock in the tray.
TheJackal, are you not able to change the default homepage by going to Tools> Internet Options?

I change it doing that, and then it just goes right back to luckysearch.net when the system is restarted.

Seems Spybot fixed it... It found a URL Redirection that AdAware missed.
If Gator or other annoying spyware comes back, i'll post back begging for help. |

Sorry I didn't post a link to Spybot. I was in a rush. Anyway, you seem to have found it and fixed the problem. You should run Spybot regularly.

You need to run Spybot in the Advanced mode to get the lock start page option in Immunize.

Looks like an install of Zone Alarm fixed it, it detected over 3000 intrusions in just 90 minutes, but the problem seems to be gone.
Just so that I know, How do I run Spybot in advanced mode? |

Open it from the start menu instead of the desktop or quicklaunch shortcuts.
