is there any free ghosting programs out there that work good. I really want to do a ghost of my system files but cannot pay for anything currently.

If you have a spare hard drive, you can use the hard drive manufacturer's utility to clone it.

You can also use xxcopy (freeware) - it won't give you an exact clone but its a heck of a lot better than nothing and beats drag and drop.

With that 120 gig Maxtor, you can use the MaxBlast III soft ware that is downloadable on thier website . I does a great job on the ghosting and it free. Only problem it works only with Maxtor.

Click Here for the program. It is Max Blast 3 and it will set up your hard drives as well as a good ghosting program as well. Just load it on your hard drive and run it. Has 4 buttons and one of them is the copy program.
The file is an ISO image that makes a bootable CD. Most any good CD burn program should be able to produce the CD. It will load the program to your hd and should be a no brainer from there.

I noticed when I downloaded that file it was a zip file. I saw that it didn't have the zip extention on it for some reason it only had ( .iso ) I left everything as was but added (.zip ) to the file and it unzipped just fine. Then I went from there.
Give that a try if yours came through like mine did without the .zip extention on the end of it.

Do this other program and load it to your hd. The program runs in Windows and will do a ghost while in the Win mode. It doesn't run in dos like some of the other ghosting programs.

The other way you could do it, is with Norton Ghost from http://norton.com, or partition magic might, or drive copy off http://www.powerquest.com/

Jim, might mean nothing, but what OS are you running? I had one heck of a time with Maxtors software and it turns out it was because Win2000 and thier software are not always compatible.
