No its kool to just reinstall the o/s on the pri partition or c: drive and keep your data and other stuff on the other partition without doing it any harm

the other partition wont be touched as long as you dont tell it to. when you start the xp install its brings u to a screen showing u your HD's and partitions, make sure u select the right partition and dont touch what you want to keep

I'm going to take a little exception to the other answers. I'm thinking that a repair install will yield different results than a reformat and reinstall as you've stated. None of the files or programs on the second partition will be disturbed, but they may not work right because of the way they are linked to the os. An over the top reinstall should correct any problems without disrupting the programs. I'd recommend running some type of registry repair tool after either method.

Along the lines of what Red said, if you reinstall your OS, all your games and settings are still saved on the other partition but you will need to reinstall the game/program so that it will put the needed .dll files (etc...) on the main drive. I have all my games on another partition and whenever I reformat, I just reinstall the games, but whats nice is all my settings and save games are already set and ready to go!
