Map, directions software- suggestions?

Has anyone had any experience with the latest veriosn of Microsoft Streets or Rand Mcnally Streetfinder? I am particularly interested in how well these programs work with a GPS attached to my laptop while driving in my car.

it will also tell you how fast your going, in what direction and how far to the next turn

I have my laptop with a power inverter plugged into the cigrett lighter

Buy a DeLorme Earthmate GPS for your laptop and use the bundled software. It's the best out there for the price by far. If you already have a GPS, Streets and Trips does a good job.

I thought of that, seems like a good deal sense the software costs over $90 dollars by itself..

Ditto. I'm using this setup with my Palm and it works great.

Got it- Earthmate and software at Bestbuy for $89 (after $20 rebate). Works great, and fun to use.

Wow, the voice recognition in the program automatically loaded my Dragon Naturally Speaking file, so the voice recogntion works great. Nothing like saying, "where am I" while driving and having the laptop tell you exactly where you are (road, city, and county) as well as the speed and direction you are traveling. This is great.

Thanks for the recommendation.
