Question Repairing a multi-boot setup

After trying to repair win98SE, I finally gave up and reinstalled it. The thing is, I still had my 2k and XP Pro O/S's active. I did save my boot.ini in the C: directory, and put it back after I finished the installation of 98SE, but it appears that the MBR has been rewritten. Is there a way to fix this?

I've not done multiboot with the same combination but suspect that you will have to go thru a parallel installation of 2K and Pro to arrive back at the same setup. 98 did redo the MBR.
This particular problem is one of the selling points of doing your multiboot with bootmagic or another boot manager into separate partitions.

Yeesh! That's quite confusing...

[edit]: Wait a minute...this is for installing 98 AFTER XP has been installed. This isn't quite what my problem is...

Can you rewrite the MBR by running the XP repair feature off the CD and typing fixmbr?

yes you can do that

I have dual boot to but never had the problem with 98 yet and dread the day that I do.
might just forget 98 all together and put xp only.

Okay, I couldn't boot with my XP CD, but I was able to with my 2k CD.

So, I went into the repair console and it asked which O/S I wanted to work from (C:\windows, D:\winnt, F:\windows). C: is 98SE, D: is 2k, F is XP.

I chose XP and typed "fixmbr", and nothing appeared to happen. The system still boots straight into 98SE. Suggestions?
