Real Suing Microsoft?

Quote:
Real Networks is suing Microsoft because no one uses Real Player software…or something like that. Real Networks is claiming unfair business practices were used against them by MS. My prediction? Can anyone say “tossed out”?

Streaming media provider RealNetworks on Thursday sued longtime nemesis Microsoft on antitrust charges, accusing the software giant of illegally using its Windows monopoly to hurt digital media rivals. In the suit, filed in federal court in San Jose, Calif., RealNetworks alleges that Microsoft has "pursued a broad course of predatory conduct over a period of years...resulting in substantial lost revenue and business for RealNetworks."

I don't like and try not to use Real Player. I think it has bad quality streams and likes to skip around on me all the time. That never happens to me (or not as frequent) with WMP, so I use that and/or quicktime. Bye Bye Real.

I don't know what MS has been doing as far as Real Player goes but I sure know that Real Networks has done plenty to keep people from using their player. In addition to poor performance, spyware, constant checks for updates, questionable collecting of personal data...which they insist they're not actually using for anything...are a few of the reasons people are avoiding Real Player in droves.

If things go as they usually do in such court cases, nobody's going to ask any consumers why they're not using Real Player, which is a shame. Real Networks might learn something if they got to hear the end users' opinions.

Real Player makes a computer run goofy if you set it for default!

hurting the performance of its RealPlayer product.
The reason that nobody uses Real Player is because its not very good. WMP is much better, IMO, and so are several others.
