Norton Ghost
I just did a fresh reinstall of win 2000 a week ago because of some problems I was haveing.
Next week I'm going to replace my old 20gig hdd with a new 40gig. I don't want to copy all my files to a disk and then reinstall windows and all my programs again. I was thinking of useing Norton Ghost to make a copy of my C and D partitions. How do I use Norton Ghost for this?

Yup, transferred the entire hdd from an 80Gb jb WD to a WD 80Gb BB. OS was 98se and it's running fine. That was about 3 months ago.

If you have purchased a Maxtor or Western Digital HD, they have a easy, self explained software that does it as well. However the Ghost program will do it easy as well. Click on the link that Panama Red gave you and you should be home free. Jim

Yes, Ghost works really well. If you don't own it already, it is included with Norton System Works Pro. You can probably find the 2003 version for about $15 or less. (there were $15 when I bought a bunch of them to install in builds earlier this year, and NSW 2003 should only drop in price as the 2004 version is out already)

Norton Ghost has saved my behind several times. I just used it today to restore my system. With Systemworks 2003 it can be executed through Windows.

I know that, but most people are cloning a drive, not making an image. Ghost is simply the absolute best software to clone or image a drive.

Personally, I use Drive Image 2002. I found it a bit easier to use than a copy of Ghost I had laying around. Drive Image is a bit more intuitive for the not so bright.
But regardless, such programs to me go to the TOP of the list of must haves and must use. It's great when you can "take over!" |

I just tried to clone my hdd to my new one. The stuff copied over but it didn't work when I tried to boot off of it. I guess I'll make an image of my drive and try it that way.

Have any of you used norton ghost with windows 2000 pro? I've had nothing but problems. First I cloned it to another hdd, any computer I put that hdd into would not load windows or even run dos off of a floppy so that I could zero fill it. Then after hours of trying I finally zero filled it, and used images of my old hdd on it. It sortof worked. When I start windows sometimes it freezes, or restarts, and every now and then it says something about hardware and restarts its self. I wish for once something would go right with my computer.
