I'm using it but didn't use 2.9 so I guess I can't really help you. I like it but I guess I don't have the frame of reference you are looking for.

i used 2.9 and oh my gosh it is so much better. i have only had it a couple of days and i was a wmp9 kinda guy but i will never go back. the quality kicks the crap out of wmp9. i used to get small clicks when using wmp9 but with winamp is amazing. the only thing i liked about wmp9 is the minibar in the bottom right hand corner, but i can live without it

I have both 2.8 and 3.0, so I guess I'll give the new one a try and let you know what happens

Well, I tried playing with 5 for a while, and although it looks great, it would be even better if I could get it to work
. First, when I started up the program, I get 4 "dynamic link" errors. When I try to play MP3's, the program freezes, then quickly skips through the playlist, with the progress bar jumping around. Videos wouldn't play at normal speed. They loaded fine, but it looked like they played at twice the normal speed.Another thing I noticed was that it randomly wanted to replace filename.wav on a playlist with MP3's. My assessment: eye candy 5/5 features 4/5 operability 0/5 I'm going to wait for the next version, say, 5.1, before I keep it. |

I tried it, and now it has totally replace the 2.91. Just a little slow-even with 1gb ram, I could notice this.

I'm still using 2.74 as anything above it I've tried runs slow or has features I don't like. Works for me.

I just got V5, and haven't had any problems *knock on wood* the only thing that I don't like about it is trying to search for radio stations.
The previous versions I could do it from the player, but now I have to go to the winamp website... |

I updated to v3, from 2.9 something, and hated it, switched to iTunes and I don't think any special features that Winamp adds will get me to switch back.
Just my opinion. |

I could never get 3 to work before I upgraded to XP; now it works fine. I think I will wait until 5 is no longer beta before getting it.
ps what's the deal with winamp 4? |

I'm using 5.01, the Pro version, and it looks real cool. It's got all these cool new features, and it plays great.
But as with all versions ex 3, it uses a lot of system resources. I wish they would find a way around that. PS: Winamp 2 + Winamp 3 = Winamp 5!!!!!!!! Last edited by pillainp; 12-24-2003 at 09:34 AM. |

you say that you had winamp 3, did you uninstall it before you installed winamp 5. I love winamp 5. I still use the basic skins. I cant stand windows media player, i wouldnt use it for nothing in the world. oh yeah, you can download Winamp5 Lite 5.01 here http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail...fid=1069287658 or winamp full here http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail...fid=1066336873 maybe a .01 will make a difference.

Did anyone have this problem before? I haven't tried 5 yet, so I don't know if it's improved, but when I used WinAmp 3 whenever you loaded an Equalizer preset, it would slowly move the sliders back to zero over a period of about an hour. Anyone had this?

I've been using version 5 since for a couple months now (beta version) and I havent had any problems. I definatly like it better than any version of 2 or 3.

I have been using winamp 5 since its been alpha and i had never encountered any problems. I would give it another try if i were you becuase it really out does winamp 3. Its very stable and when i used to use winamp 3 it would crash all the times...
