How do I bring up DOS prompt?
I have a machine with no OS and no BIOS.
I need to bring up the DOS prompt and then load the BIOS. I have absolutely no experience using DOS, so please be very descriptive if you would? What is "flashing the BIOS" and how does one do this after loading the BIOS? Thanks |

Ok...
I have a FX-51 CPU on a ASUS SK8N mobo 1 gig corsair ram (2) WD360 Raptor drives running configured to SATA I am a newbie so forgive me if I dont have all this right. So anyway, I ended up pulling the battery for the CMOS and had to reset the correct time. In the process I was no longer able to bring up the BIOS by tapping on the delete key as the computer booted. So could I have erased the BIOS by pulling the battery? Anyway my mobo instructions said must upgrade the BIOS anyway. I went to the ASUS site, downloaded the latest BIOS and now I want to install the BIOS. The instructions say to bring up the DOS prompt and then load the BIOS How do I do this? I already have the new bios files on the floppy (unzipped) I am attempting to run this machine in a RAID-0 config with Win XP. Thanks Last edited by David M; 12-29-2003 at 12:19 AM. |

you need to put the floppy in the drive when you boot up.
hopeing you did make the floppy bootable by having dos system files on it first |

By removing the battery you cleared the bios settings, but you didn't erase it. You should still be able to get into the bios the same way you did before doing this.

You can't erase the BIOS when removing the batter. The BIOS is stored in an EEPROM. It doesn't have to be powered. The battery you removed just saves the BIOS settings.
If you can no longer access the BIOS like you did beforehand, there are other problems that you may need to deal with. |
