Trying to get rid of DirectCD on WinXP
My mom has a compaq that I upgraded to WinXP only to find out that you can't use DirectCD with it. I installed another direct write program so she can back up her data agian, but I can't get DirectCD all the way off the system. Even after an uninstall it keeps saying at boot that it has stopped such and such DirectCD driver from loading as it may cause system instability. How do I get rid of this?

Start->Run and type msconfig
Look in the startup tab and uncheck directcd. |

Do a search (or find) files for anything related to Direct CD, Roxio, or Easy CD creator. Delete them all. You may need to uninstall the packet writing software you wish to use, delete all of its files too and reinstall it. Nero even has info on their site on how to prevent conflicts with Direct CD when using Nero's InCD packet writer.

DirectCD works in Windows XP (I use it too under XP), but you might require an update. . depends on how old your version of DirectCD is. So you might not need to uninstall it, first I'd try to update.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Actually, I tried all of your sugetions allready, and none of them worked, it still has that driver in there, or, for some reason, it still thinks it does. I can't find anything to indicate that there is a reminant on the program left, yet she gets that warning message every time she starts her comp. Freekin' wierd.
