OpenOffice to Office 2000

Okay, I have a huge timeline due in history class tomorrow and my teacher said that we could either do it on PowerPoint (he has Office 2000 (for Mac, but I don't think that matters)) or type out the timeline and print it, then cut out the stuff and put it on a poster or something.

I'm wondering if his PowerPoint will accept and open my OpenOffice Presentation.

After talking to some people, I have decided that I will burn the presentation to a CDR, and print out the slides. This way, if PP can't read the OO Pres., he can still see that I did my timeline.

I use Star Office which is based on Open Office (it might be the same), In Star Office Presentations when you click 'Save As' you have the option of saving the file in MS Powerpoint format.

Since I have both programs I did some experimenting. Files saved in Powerpoint format open ok in MS Powerpoint, however, the same file saved in Staroffice Presentations format will not open in Powerpoint.

See if Open Office has an option to save file as Powerpoint.

Just checked the Open Office web site. You can save Presentation files in MS Powerpoint format.

Thank you Prew. I just saw your first post, check the Save As options, and yes I can. You can save for PP 97, 2000, and XP.

Remember that coverting sometimes isn't an exact science. Sometimes it will fail or take a couple of tries. Especially with the Presentation program of Open Office, it is highly recommended that that you first save your work in the native Open Office format first. Then, convert to Power Point. Sometimes, coverting to Power Point directly will lose the work totally!

For others, another alternative might be using Irfanview 3.85. You can make an autoexecuting slideshow if you have the plug ins and Nero with one button! It works really easy!

Ray, I made sure too save it as an OpenOffice Presentation file first, then when I finished, I saved it to MS Office (template and slideshow, just in case one doesn't work).
