Games Crash/ Windows XP

Hello everyone!

I just bought a Dell Dimension 4600 with Windows XP Pro. The computer just arrived today and I hooked it up. The computer specs are:
P4 2.66ghz
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
1gb of PC2700 RAM
80gb hard drive

I installed the great Battlefield 1942 and when i went to run the game, it crashed. The computer has been consistently restarting and the game has crashed about every 5 minutes that I run it. I also installed UT2003, and that game crashed as well.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any known errors or conflicts between Windows XP and video games, and also if anyone knows how to fix this probelm. Thanks!

Start with motherboard chipset drivers. Then look at updated video drivers. Shut off un-needed services. Update DirectX.

This may be a double post, but if the computer is new check with DELL since you just bought it. They could prolly help you out.
