msn can't send mail

A client of mine is using msn as her work e-mail. She is hooked up through dsl in her office, but can't send e-mails using msn. she can receive them and read them, but not send.

also, when she goes to the msn website it tells her that her user name and/or password is incorrect even though it isn't.

I should also mention that I had a heck of a time connecting her to the dsl (bellsouth). the netgear router wouldn't get access with pppoe, so i had to put the username and password in her westell modem, and then tell the router that no user name is required.
