Photos

I have no idea if this is the right place to put this question or if anyone knows but here goes.
Some photos of a graduation were zipped onto a floppy and sent to me I cannot get the photos to open.
I presume or am just thinking they may need the software programme they were zipped from to open them but am not sure maybe I can never get them opened.
I do get an application to say its open but its as usuall all garbage.
So can anyone tell me if there is a way to do it. If I need the programme is their any way I can tell what one it was. These pictures were taken by a video camera. Reason I am asking the person whose child it was that graduated had them on their computer and computer crashed lost the pictures they also had them on a CD but apparently that is lost as well. They were in the process of moving at the time. So hard to say what happened to the disk.
Would appreciate if someone could help.
Would knowing the name of the video camera help.

What is the file extention name of the file? Is it .zip or something else?

If it's zip, you may need to download winzip. http://winzip.com

I shouldn`t have said it didn`t unzip as it does I have put it in my unzipped file and it is listed as photos but I cannot open says There are no viewers registered for that type of file. I look in properties and it is CTF files
Also it will open if I use the default viewer or whatever but it is just the garbled words that appear. So the photos are not opening. Thats why I am wondering if I need the programme that pictures were zipped from. I am not sure If I can find out what one it was.

I believe that CTF is a MGI Photo Suite extension.

Hi Ruth

Like Roger mentions, CTF is either the file extension used by MGI Photo Suite (now owned by Roxio), or a compressed TIFF format (Tagged Image File Format). Most likely it's the PhotoSuite format.

How did you unzip the files? Did you just double-click on the file? Or did you use a Zip utility?

If you used a Zip utility, see if you have better luck with just double-clicking on the files. Some are self-extracting. What would be nice is if they included what we'd call a "runtime" viewer - a little program to view them as you open them.

Other than that, you can try to open them with a competitor's program, since they can often open each other's formats, and usually offer to convert them for you. If you have something like Adobe PhotoShop Elements, you can try that.
. . . Gary

[if your friends have a System Recovery disk set for their computer that crashed, that should restore their software bundle as well & you can just make an extra copy of that floppy, send it back to them & it will open with their Photo Suite]
