Usb Problem?

I have a problem with my game controller, being that when i plug it in the usb port it does nothing?

The game pad, is a microsoft- sindwinder pad, and it XP compatible so doesnt need drivers!
Ive tried going into control panel then game controllers, and picking my pad form the list, but it comes up with the following error;
YOUR GAMEPORT OR GAMEPORT DRIVES ARE NOT PROPERLY CONFIGURED. PLEASE CONSULT THE DEVICE MANAGER.

But when I go into the deivce manager it doesnt show any problems??

I have also got XP updates from there website & still cannot get it working?

It seems ive tried everything now, unless someone has any other ideas?

Do you have any other USB devices attached? Have you ever had any USB devices attached and working?

Yes I have other USB devices attached and they work ok.

I have attached the game pad, into all my usb ports on my motherboard & separtare 2.0 USD ports but it dont work, yet if I attached my mouse or modem through the USB it works ok??
