Pissed nero express...burn process failed

Almost every time I try to update one of my backup CD's I end up with the message burn process failed. It was working fine untill one day it decided not to update CD'd. Yes they were set as RW. Is normal nero better? Is there a free version of it? Or is there a better burning program out there (free).

Maybe CD RW disks are not so good. They don't last forever and last a lot less than you think. Are CD-R disks burning OK?
