i'd start by setting up a decent firewall (if you have a router you have a hardware-firewall) i recommend zonealarm
furthermore it seems like a popup killer would be usefull in your situation.
a regular check using a virusscanner, adaware and spybot, and i think you should be secure enough

but mate the question still reminds unanswer can your ISP monitor what URL you are surfing & is there a way you can stop that , I do a lot of banking online with Halifax so my concerns is what if and what if they are viewing what you spend your money one ie computers , hardware and so forth.

Sure your ISP knows where you go since you are connected to their servers. Do the monitor and track where you go and sell this info? Not if they want to stay in business very long. They traditionally put up a pretty good fight whenever someone else like the RIAA tries to obtain this information. There are other things to worry about besides this.

Yes, they can see where you are and where you have visited. They can see unencrypted web pages as well. But do they? Not unless they have a reason to. Why would they spend the time, money, and manpower looking at the web surfing habits of their customers? If you are doing something illegal, sure, they will look at you. But it is much more likely that somebody will pick your pocket than your ISP will somehow profit from what you are viewing.

there is child protection software out there... if that's what you mean?

does the computer they use connect dirrectly to the net, or is this via a shared inter concetion.
i'm using winproxy, to share my adsl connection over my roommates pc's and i can see what sites they have been surfing (if i want to, witch i don't)

smokin

yes i am using a firewall and AOL parent software , but i think we are missing out on a point here and also moving off the subject.

My point who on earth should view where you surf its bit like mobile phones , if you want to you can track down where your wife is ? , the point i am making is too much information about us is know to other people and what i want to do is scramble that information so they don't know its bit like your home would you give me your home address the answer isn NO why because its none of my business.

DATA what does it mean , well in my view big companies just want to know more about you so then can con you in buying their product.

does anyone know what i talking about . Too much data come on guy's you have to agree to a point with me.

Thank you doctorgonzo

you see my point i am worried like hell i mean its like the Martix but with out the Martix , next thing that is going to happen in UK is ID cards which your figure print on it , i mean how stupit is this. I know what most people are going to be saying , well we already carried a ID card your driving licence well guy's you still have to carried the paper version which means all the DVLA was interested in was your Photo ,

I serious beleive we as a general public have to stop this. for the right reason.
