I don't think there is a way for a moving background for your desktop, but I could be wrong,
You can use animated .gif files for your background.

Animated .gif's are images that move, boxcarracer's picture is a animated .gif.

Couldn't Active Desktop also theoretically handle an animated .png (better resolution than gif) or even some flash content, for example? It would use up a lot of resources, but should be possible, right?

(Oh yeah, btw, I've used (briefly) and seen animated Gifs as desktops, on win98)

Active Desktop, from what I've heard, is merely a psuedo-webpage, so theoretically anything that you see on a website should also work.

I imagine that if your web browser is capable of reading the image files, you should also be able to see it on your desktop.

I use winwal found at http://www.net-session.com/index.php?page=winwall. you basically choose a directory on your hdd and set the time intervals whwn you want to change it. I basically change every start up cuz I get bored with the same wallpaper easily!l
