boot ini
Had difficulties with OS.
NTLDR not found. Press Cntrl-Alt-Delete to reboot. Copied NTDetect, NTLDR, boot ini from laptop running XP. Was able to recover data from C: to D:. Tried Recovery Console; Repair both manual and auto. Nada, same Cntrl-Alt-Delete. Did a Delete/Format from the NT boot disk. Same Cntrl-Alt-Delete. Crud! Noticed a descrepancy in the reported HDD space. ERR? Too much time going into attempted recovery. Reverted to Win98 fdisk/format fresh install of Win98. Problems gone. Inserted W2kPro disk, fresh install. Voila!! Re-installed all apps. Runs slick! Sorry for the long story. Noticed on boot two choices are offered. Win2k Pro Windows Looked at \boot ini found the same there. Now the real question is (Ta Da). Is it ok to simple remove the "Windows" from \boot ini? Current boot ini follows. [boot loader] timeout=0 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect C:\="Microsoft Windows" Thanks! After thoughts, any suggestions as to how such could occur? |

You can just remove it. It is residue from the 98 install.
