Question Scanning Pics for Video Slideshow

I'm putting a slideshow to music displaying pics of a person from birth to age 30. Two questions:

At what dpi should I scan the photos, particularly if they're smaller photos which will need to be enlarged? I have an hp all-in-one 6110.

What's the average time I should leave a photo onscreen before fading to the next?

Thx.

If it's going to be played on a computer, 75dpi is plenty. If you're going to do something else with it (burn to DVD or CDR to view on a TV, then the more the better.
5 seconds is usually about right for onscreen time, with around 1.25 seconds for fade from one to the next.
Windows Movie Maker 2 actually does a pretty good job of slideshows, with the built in templates.

Ya, it's for presentation at a party, so DVD/TV. I want to capture at best dpi, then? With the length of the music I have been give to work with, it figures to be about 7 seconds per picture, so a little longer but that should be ok. I'll be using Pinnacle Studio 8 (it's what I got...), but I think that should work out alright.

Pinnacle is great, although more than what you really need for this.
If you set it for about 7 seconds each, and 1.5 seconds fade, it should be good.
Remember that what looks good on the computer, is going to be enlarged to the TV screen size, so at least 150dpi, and preferrably 300 or so should be about right. That will give you a balance of quality and finished presentation size.
This may not be too much of a worry, if you're burning to DVD, but for us folk stuck in SVCD land, filesizes are still a consideration
