crazy fullscreen popup ad
Has anyone seen/or been getting a full screen popup ad that says in a big red font, "Press Enter to continue?" It has a green background and a picture of a keyboard in the center.
Well this morning my brother found this popup, yet again, on his screen and it took his machine hostage (only happens sometimes). "Enter" wouldn't work, "ctrl-alt-del" didn't show any IE explorer windows open. "alt-tab" was useless. "windows + M" would not minimize. He had to restart his pc to get rid of it. I have tried Lavasoft Ad-aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, switching to Mozilla Firebird, disabling messenger service, running nav scan, installing all windows updates - all of them found and did nothing to protect this machine from this particular pop-up! And another note, when hitting "enter" successfully (on rare occasions), the popup ad changes the IE home page to a popup blocking software site. How ironic? Damn pop-ups! What should I do to slay this pop-up? Last edited by Heon2574; 01-31-2004 at 01:27 PM. |

Sometimes "Escape" will free you. I used to get them a lot crusing the porn sites but haven't had a problem with them since I started running Popup blocker from Panicware. http://www.panicware.com/

I had a very bad experience with Comet cursor a few years back and will not get near it. Try ridding yourself of Comet cursor and installing popup blocker from Panicware. If that doesn't resolve your problems, you can uninstall Panicware software and reinstall Comet cursor.
If you don't want to do that and Comet cursor hasn't caused you any problems, try turning off their popup blocker and installing the one from Panicware. Again if it doesn't do the job for you, you can uninstall the Panicware software and turn the Comet cursor blocker back on. Chas Last edited by Confused; 02-01-2004 at 08:24 AM. |

Confused, your experience with these type pop-ups is not unique. However, let me suggest that you incorporate Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard in your arsenal to defeat these type irritants. Their web sites can be found via any good search engine, like Google. They are free. They supplement SpyBot and AdAware. I have found them to be quite effective.

Sorry, Confused, but my previous post should have been directed to Heon2574. But if you can get any mileage out of it, great.

Download the Google toolbar. It has an excellent pop-up blocker built in and it doesn't take up any system resources. I would stay away from Comet Cursor.
