Restore Disk Problem...?

Not sure where to post this.....

Ok, Compaq 5000US running ME.

I did the ENUM trick and only had 2 problems afterwards. The other problem is fixed, so this is the only one left and I have NO clue how to resolve it.

Basically the Restore Disk that came with this pc no longer works. If I put the Restore Disk in the CD-Rom and boot up--it goes thru post and then I get a blue screen that states:

Compaq Recovery CD
Machine Does Not Support this Function
Please turn off Your Machine

It USED to support this function. Its SUPPOSE to support this function. The CD has been well taken care of, so there shouldnt be any problems with it.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanx!

No. I did the ENUM trick just to copy some files onto the pc i use now, then put it back into the compaq (after doing the ENUM trick again). I've never used the CD but I've loked at the options at least once in the past.

However, when I first did the ENUM trick I deleted 2-3 ENUM folders<---not just the one under Local Machine. I remembered it wrong and got a bit confused.

When I did the ENUM trick again and reinstalled it back into the Compaq--everything worked fine except the Dial-Up Adapter (Fixed) and this Restore Disk problem. Otherwise, the HD is partitioned and formatted as it was when it left the factory with the Original ME OS.

System Restore has only allowed me to go back to Sept 23, 2003 and no further.

Long day a head of me, so I wont be back until probably Monday (tomorrow) Morning.

Any help, thoughts, pointers is Greatly Appreciated!

Have you changed or upgraded any hardware since the machine was delivered - specifically the hard drive or an optical drive? Compaq restore discs can be incredibly fussy about this.

The CD-rom that's in it is the one that came with the machine. I added a CD-rw about a yr ago, that I have taken out and put in this custom build.

I can put it back temporarily and check.

I havent changed or upgraded anything else.

The only thing I've done is the ENUM Trick, other than that---I just used the pc.

Come to think of it---I guess I do need to see if I reset the CD-Rom back to master--on the cable and the jumpers---I doubt that I bothered---might make a difference.

I don't know if this will help or if it even applies to your situation. I had a Compaq and the ONLY way it would do a Restore was to put in the disk, shutdown the computer and reboot ,with the disk still in the drive. If I did not do it in that order it would not work.

Thats the only way that I can get a response, and all it tells me is that: Machine Does Not Support this Function.
