Ghost nightmare .....

I decided to restore my C drive from a Ghost image on my D drive (separate physical drives). In the process of restoral I received a Ghost error message: 10008 Unexpected end of file. I ran the Ghost image checker and received the same message.

I decided to return to the origninal OS (XP Pro) on the C drive and it is gone.

I checked the Symantec site and it only says to check media, which I did.

Anyone have any clues here?

If I use the XP CD can I restore the MBR and regain the OS on the CD drive?

Thank you in advance,

Haasman

I had the same problem while using Ghost 2003. I had to do a fresh install. I don't seem to have any issues with Ghost if my backups are on the same physical drive.

the error says to check connections and media. maybe your hdd cable is getting old. remember there is ALOT of file transfer in this mode and if your cable is weak on a crimp or etc, it may not maintain connection properly.
i would be tempted to change out the cables on both hdds to help prevent future problems as i've had good luck doing what you tried. [assuming you were using a ghost executable loaded onto floppy to reboot and run in "pc dos", thats what ghost likes to call it.]
if you are trying to restore an image from within windows, thats different and i never use that choice as the system registry files cannot be copied to create a full bootable working partition. p.s. i use ghost 2002.

That is a great suggestion. Cables do get broken down. I have several fresh ones lying around and it only takes a minute.

I am using the PC DOS and not trying to restore within Windows. I also opened an incident (paid for) with Symantec. The first order os business was to verify the medium which checked out ok. Second was to verify the image which failed...... I need to now call them back.

The tech I spoke with seemed confident but .... this next call will probably be telltale. I will update this thread once I find out.
