tape reader
does anyone know of a program that reads a magnetic tape? like a dds 3? i make these backups every day, and then today, when i absolutely need to restore something, it won't restore at all... it's acting like there's nothing on the tape, even though it's scanning through thousands of files, so i want a reader that i can use to see what all is on the tape.

You may have empty tape. You may need another drive. The normal backup software should have a restore function and a contents function.
Did you do a restore test anytime in the recent past? It is fine to make backups, but if they won't work in the ideal circumstances of a perfectly functioning machine, you can be sure they won't work when you need them. |

i did a restore test when i first implemented the system... after that i just let it be.
the tape isn't blank, it's just acting as if it can't find the end of whatever session to give me the info i want. |
