Best DVD burning software?

I just got a new computer, and It came with some generic DVD burning software. I try burning avi.'s and I get a message saying its an unsupported file type or something like that. I was wondering if there is a DVD burning program that would allow me to burn just about any type of video files to a DVD? Or, I was thinking, do I have to convert them to another type? Im kinda clueless =/ I apprecaite the help though!

Are you trying to create a DVD, or just burn data?
If it's just data, then any good burning program should do it.
Recommended is Nero www.nero.com
If you're trying to make a DVD to play on a standalone, then go to http://www.dvdrhelp.com/
There are quite a few good DVD authoring programs around, and some of the best are even free.
